EndNote style
The EndNote style Lifelong_Learning.ens (for EndNote version 7 or version 9 or later) is available for use. The file needs to be saved into the EndNote/Styles folder (usually C:\Program Files\Endnote\Styles).
This style is based on the Publication Manual of the APA, 5th ed. but has no indents in the bibliography. If you are citing a reference type that is not included in EndNote, you should consult the APA manual for guidance.
The APA style is a very complex style. EndNote can handle most of the requirements of this style, but EndNote does not include the full spectrum of reference types that are described in the APA manual. You may need to add or modify your own reference types.
Version 7 instructions
Electronic Journals: If you are citing an article from an electronic journal which has the same format as the print journal, enter your data in the Journal reference type, as you would normally, but after the article title, add the words "[Electronic version]" as shown below.
TITLE: Role of reference elements in the selection of resource by psychology undergraduates [Electronic version]
The "Electronic Source" reference template included in EndNote is set up for citing web site URLs, postings to news groups, and electronic reports. It is not set up for two-titled works.
If you are citing an electronic journal article that is from a web-only journal, then you will need to create a new "Electronic Journal" reference type. This reference type should be set up almost identically to the Journal reference type, except that the date field should be called "Access Date." Follow the instructions in the EndNote manual or the CQU EndNote web guide on how to create a new reference type.
Then add the new reference type to this style with the following template:
Author. (Year). Title. Journal|, Volume| Issue|. `Retrieved` Access Date|, `from` URL
Note: to edit the style
Click on Edit | Output Styles | Open Style Manager .
Select Lifelong_Learning.ens (ensuring a tick is in the checkbox)
Close Style Manager.
Click on Edit | Output Styles | Edit "Lifelong_Learning" .
Under Bibliography Template add the new reference type with the information above .
The EndNote "Manuscript" reference type follows the APA guidelines for an "Unpublished manuscript not submitted for publication". For works that have been submitted for publication, enter them into the reference type in which they will be published (e.g. Journal Article) and type "In Press" in the Year field.
"Personal Communications," which include e-mails, should not be included in the final reference list according to APA guidelines. Cite them only in the text itself in parenthesis according to the APA handbook.
Version 9 or later instructions (for sections that vary)
Electronic Journals: If you are citing an article from an electronic journal which is also a print journal, enter your data in the Electronic Article reference type, as you would normally, but after the title, add the words "[Electronic version]" as shown in entry #71 "Internet articles based on a print source" on page 271 in the spiral-bound edition of the APA manual:
TITLE: Role of reference elements in the selection of resource by psychology undergraduates [Electronic version]
If you are citing an electronic journal article that is from a web-only journal, use the new Electronic Article reference type. See the APA manual entry #72 on page 272 of the spiral-bound edition for an example. The style includes this reference type.
